Cert IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110 to TAE40116 Upgrade
This upgrade program is specifically developed for qualified trainers and assessors who hold the superseded qualification TAE40110.
The TAE40116 consists of 10 units of competency incorporating nine core units and one elective unit. This upgrade course takes into consideration the units you have completed in your TAE40110 and maps them to the current units, to identify any gaps based on your experiences. Depending on the units you have completed in obtaining your TAE40110, you may need to complete two online units to address either or both of the two new core units, as detailed below.
New Core Units that you may need to complete, if you have not done so previously:
- TAEASS502: Design and Develop Assessment Tools
- TAELLN411: Address Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills
Your enrolment period for this upgrade is 6 months. Enrolment extensions beyond 6 months are subject to an extension fee.
Description of Units – Upgrade
To further develop your skills and knowledge, you may need to complete the following two core units to achieve the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116):
TAEASS502: Design and Develop Assessment Tools
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design and develop assessment tools used to guide the collection of quality evidence, including their application in formative, summative and RPL assessment. The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, including developing at least three assessment tools that support different assessment methods, and address at least one unit of competency each.
TAELLN411: Address Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements.
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to recognise the core language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) demands of training and assessment, and to tailor training and assessment to suit individual skill levels, including accessing relevant support resources. This unit introduces trainers and assessors to core LLN issues in training and assessment practice. Competence in this unit does not indicate that a person is a qualified specialist adult language, literacy or numeracy practitioner. Evidence to be addressed includes the ability to use tools to identify the LLN skill requirements (reading, writing, speaking, listening and numeracy) of the training specification and/or assessment process relevant to vocational delivery; to customise and use at least two learning resources to address LLN requirements; and to select, use and review at least two assessment strategies that cater for the identified LLN needs of the learner group.
- A scanned copy of your original TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and a transcript of units completed as well as copies of your industry qualifications/certificates
- Your current training resumé detailing the training and assessing you have been involved in since achieving your TAE40110, as well as information regarding professional development you have undertaken to ensure currency, which can simply include a copy of your trainer skills matrix
- Email contact details of a minimum of two referee/s to support this information
- Completion of our comprehensive RPL Kit which includes Evidence Checklists and Knowledge Questions Answers (supplied by Connect Training upon enrolment) so we can review your training experiences and practices.
Further evidence is required to address changes to two of the units in the upgrade process (TAEASS401 and TAEASS403), relating to recent experiences in RPL planning and assessing as well as participation in assessment tool validation. However, this is part of the RPL process, and if needed we can provide specific tasks to address these areas at no additional cost.
Depending on the elective unit you have completed in your TAE40110 and your currency in the skills and knowledge requirements of this qualification, you may also need to complete the two new core units within our online platform.
- Our payment plan makes this course affordable for everyone. Pay only $499 upfront, followed by 2 monthly payments of just $97 (total: $693).
- Or save 5% and make an upfront payment by credit card or bank transfer of $649.
- The issuance of a certificate is included in the course fees. An administrative fee of $50 applies if you require an interim statement of attainment or a re-issuance of a certificate.
Students must hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and be over 18 years old.
Achievement of the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is one of the ways trainers can meet the requirements of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.
The learning component of our course is delivered online with our easy to use online learning system. Our learning materials are superbly presented in an interesting and interactive way and you can work through them at your own pace.
Our assessments give you the opportunity to practice training and assessing in your area of expertise. This is a great way to build confidence and customise the course to your needs.
The assessment component of our course is blended with online and offline components. Some of the units in this upgrade program require access to a suitable practice environment where you have access to learners so that you can practice training and assessing them. If you don't currently have a workplace that is a suitable practice environment we do provide a "simulated" practice environment that is accessed online, over the phone and through Skype. This simulated environment will provide a good practice environment for you for most of the units. Some of the units require you to teach and assess students face-to-face. For these units you will need to find a suitable workplace to complete the assessments that require you to have face-to-face interaction with students.
Course Duration and Enrolment Period
Once you enrol you have 6 months to complete the program. The total hours depend on the number of units you need to complete and if you complete them via an RPL or a training and assessment pathway. We estimate that this upgrade program will take between 40 to 150 hours to complete. This includes all learning and assessment activities. This is a guide only as everyone learns at a different pace, undertakes different quantities of units and completes units via different pathways.
We offer a simple yet comprehensive RPL process that allows you to upgrade from the TAE40110 to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. You will simply need to provide the following evidence, and, depending on your current skills and knowledge, you may need to complete a few additional tasks to meet the changes to the outcomes for some of the units and/or changes to the packaging rules for this qualification.
This RPL process includes, but is not limited to, completing a comprehensive RPL Kit; providing scanned copies of your qualifications; providing a current training resumé, professional development plan or skills matrix; providing contact details for credible referees so we can follow up with your experiences; and having a competency conversation between you and your Connect training group assessor. You have a 6-month enrolment period to complete this RPL pathway. However, you can work through this process in a much quicker time if that is your preferred option. Our students’ handbook is available on our website under “Policies”.
The following pathways are available for you:
- Study followed by assessment
- Recognition of Prior Learning – If you have previous skill and knowledge and can provide evidence to support further RPL for the remaining units
- Assessment only: Simply work through the assessment tasks.
