This course is delivered flexibly on-line or by correspondence. Upon successful completion of this short course you will achieve a nationally recognised statement of attainment in partial recognition of the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. This statement will recognise the skills and knowledge you have obtained.

Unit of competency and learning outcomes

TAEASS502: Design and Develop Assessment Tools

The unit this course addresses is a CORE unit in the latest VET trainer qualification: TAE40116: Certificate IV in training and assessment qualification and TAE50116 Diploma of VET.


This course is delivered completely on-line (or by correspondence); therefore there are no fixed enrolment dates. You enrol and commence your course at a time and place suitable for you. There are no classroom dates and times that you need to factor in to your busy work schedule.

Once enrolled you have 6 months to complete your course. We have estimated that the time frame to reivew course content and complete all assessment tasks should take you between 65 - 80 hours.

ASSESSMENT PATHWAYS including Recognition of Prior Learning

Assessments require students to apply their knowledge and skills within a simulated or actual work environment. Simulated workplace scenarios are provided online to assist with completing some of the assessments tasks to determine underpinning knowledge and skill.

Types of assessment tasks take the form of:
  • Case Studies including scenarios
  • Portfolio of evidence based on actual workplace assessment requirements
Assessments are conducted on-line and submitted via the learning management system (LMS) or can be mailed into Connect training group for assessment.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

If you feel you already have competence in any of the tasks required within this course, you can apply to have these skills recognised.

RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS including Language Literacy and Numeracy Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however you will need: 
  • Access to a computer with internet connection
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course, e.g.:
    • Ability to read, analyse and interpret assessment tools and units of competency
    • Design skills to develop different assessment tools based on different target groups and contexts
